Ready to get Rid of Your Debt?
Almost all of us have a little debt in our name, whether it’s loans, credit cards, or any other types of services. It’s hard living life without accumulating at least some debt, but it’s even harder trying to get rid of it. If you’re ready to take the plunge and start eliminating your debt, try following these easy tips:
Surefire Ways to Rid Yourself from Debt
- What kind of debt do most of us have? Credit card debt. One of the best ways to rid yourself from debt is to stop using your credit cards entirely. Don’t close your accounts though, as that can lower your credit score and you may need your card for an emergency sometime.
- Avoid getting nickel and dimed whether it’s through your bank or any other service. Find out all the different fees you could be getting charged and do whatever it takes to avoid them.
- Pay your bills on time every month, better yet, pay them early! Those $15-$40 fees are a killer and damage your credit score so always be on time. If possible, consider having bills come out of your account automatically each month.
- Whenever you can, pay more than just the minimum payment on your debt. By only paying the minimum payment each month, it could take you over ten years to pay back $1,000 in debt.
- When your main source of income just isn’t cutting it, try adding another for a while. For most people, this means taking on a part time job. By working an extra 10 hours a week and putting the income solely toward your debt, you could balance your debt out in no time.
- As you’re paying off your debt, take a small amount each month and add it to an emergency fund. That way you’re prepared for the next time your car breaks down or you need some dental work.
- See if you can possibly transfer some of your credit card balances to a new card or loan that offers lower interest rates. This could help you save hundreds over time, but make sure you’re not getting nailed with any fees for the process.
